NAME1This fabulous group of women has been singing together since 1998.  A relatively small ensemble of 12 voices, we have shared our singing lives with children growing, illness, travel and creative endeavours. As women and songsters we are a mixed bag who come together through a love of harmony and joyous song, weekends away, sisterly conversation, hugs, wine and chocolate – heart and soul and saving grace! We sang our final concert raising money for a refugee choir in August 2018, and some of us still meet on Tuesday nights  because we can’t let the singing go!

Rise Up My Love

Name-2A large SATB (mixed voice) community choir, Going For a Song meet on Monday nights at the Ithaca Hall in Paddington at 7pm for two hours of raising our voices in harmony. All comers are welcome and encouraged to join this friendly group.  We sing popular songs, world music, the occasional gospel song – whatever takes our fancy really, and enjoy performances several times a year, culminating with carols at the Wesley Hospital in December.

Rain

Name-3Loud and Clear is a daytime choir!  Wednesdays from 11 – 1pm we rehearse at the Ithaca Hall in Red Hill.  Everyone is welcome to sing our varied repertoire, which includes a few beautiful classical arrangements. Loud and Clear performs several times a year around the community, when its members aren’t in Spain….or the Simpson Desert…or Tasmania!

Name-4Sweet Freedom Singers are a choir whose members experience disadvantage in their communities. Most choir members have been referred to by disability and homelessness support organisations in inner-city Brisbane. I took over the musical director’s position at the beginning of 2015, hugely supported by the management of Mike Meade, the musical expertise of Dave Crane and Brian Procopis and a host of generous volunteers.

I had to leave the position in early 2018 when I started a Masters in Music Studies in Vocal Pedagogy.

Sweet Freedom is now run by Communify and the inclusive singing sessions are still led by Dave and Brian at the Newmarket Bowls Club.
